Buddy

Stella
Buddy is sad to report that his friend Stella died on December 20, 2017.

Maria
Buddy is happy to report that his friend Maria has been adopted from the Volusia Humane Society.

UPDATE - Sadly - Maria only enjoyed one day at her new home - during her follow-up medical assessment it was determined that she had severe medical concerns that required her to be euthanized.

While she was at one time an abandoned dog - she died peacefully with her friends and family by her side. Maria may have had heart worms - but in the end she managed to worm her way into the hearts of many.

Many thanks go out to the staff of Halifax Humane Society, which particular attention given to Yvonne, Tom & Dr. Green. The staff of Veterinary Emergency Center of East Volusia (Port Orange) gave Maria very compassionate care during her final hours.

March 20, 2014

Sadly - Buddy has just became aware that one of his Centennial Park friends died last September.

Raymond R. Russell, known to everyone as "Ray", passed away on September 5, 2013 at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marge, daughter, Deanna, as well as his brother Gary. He was predeceased by sons David and Douglas. There are also many family members and friends "up North" who will miss him. Ray, along with his partner and friend, Jerry Theel, operated J & R Automotive in Holly Hill for more than 15 years. He had many good friends and customers through those years. Notably, among those friends were Steve Budick and Marty Shook. Ray never stopped being Ray. He was able to crack jokes with his Hospice nurse until the very end. He even dictated his own obituary and gave Marge a couple of last directives. First, to tell his poker-playing friends at the Elks that it's been great, but he's "all in". Second, and the thing that he was most adamant about, was that there be no calling hours or memorial service. Instead, he asks that his friends remember him as he was in life

JULY 9, 2011 IS PET APPRECIATION DAY!

Thank you Carol for the email - Buddy says hi to you and JoJo and that he misses both of you.

UPDATE July 8, 2011-Buddy's visit on May 22, 2011 with his friends at the James Ormond Park went well. Buddy will be having some more reunions in the near future. He is doing extremely well, he has taken over the house as well as the backyard. He has also started going for walks around the block - about a half mile total. We are very pleased with Buddy's progress - it's not often you can adopt a dog that was living in the park and discover he is also house broken.

Any questions - contact Buddy by Email @ budsterthedog@cfl.rr.com

UPDATE April 5, 2011-Public Records regarding the March 8, 2011 capture of Buddy has been received from the City of Holly Hill (see below link)- We had anticipated that some type of police or animal control report was generated on this incident. However, for now, the below PDF file is the sum total of what has been received for the City of Holly Hill. Buddy is doing fine - he loves his new dog friends - he loves sleeping on a bed - and he loves living indoors, but still being able to run in his large back yard... more to come...

BUDDY IS SAFE !!

Buddy wants all his friends at the Centennial Park to know that he survived his March 8, 2011 ordeal.

He is recouperating at his nice new home in North Ormond Beach. The transition from park life to regular home life will be hard, but the process is on going.

Buddy wants his friends to know that this website hopes to post a detailed account of what transpired on March 8, 2011. Buddy invites you to visit his website regularly for updates on how he is doing, what really happened and other stuff.

Buddy wants to extend a SPECIAL THANK YOU to all his new friends at the Flagler Humane Society. The Flagler Humane Society stated that ALL of Buddy's Holly Hill Park Friends took excellent care of him. They gave him a clean bill of health, to include being found heartworm negative.

Not enough can be said about how helpful the Flagler Humane Society was in helping us secure Buddy. On March 8, 2011 Buddy was captured by Holly Hill Animal Control due to a complaint against him. Animal Control transported him to Flagler Humane Society. However, directly outside Flagler Humane Society, Buddy made an escape. Upon hearing the Buddy was lost some 20 plus miles from home - Buddy friends Toni and Ed traveled up to Flagler Humane Society in an attempt to retreive him. Although Buddy was spotted, Toni and Ed were unsuccessful in getting Buddy into the Humane Society. Ron, an employee of the FHS stayed after hours assisting Toni and Ed but to no avail. The next morning some of Buddy's other friends traveled to FHS and were also unsuccessful in locating Buddy. Later that day Toni and Ed reported back to the FHS, this time the brought their dogs Jake and Molly. With the help of Jake and Molly, Buddy was secured into the FHS.

Usually a dog must be processed for about 4-5 days before he / she can be adopted. However, the FHS fast tracked Buddy, and the very next day Buddy's friends John and Kim picked him up to go live on 2.5 acres in North Ormond Beach. We can not overstress the assistance we received from the FHS - Buddy give them a Five Paw rating and highly suggest that his friends consider making a donation in his name (Buddy the Holly Hill Park Dog) to the Flagler Humane Society.

Since then Buddy has been making the adjustments from being a park dog to living the good life by having the best of both world - he has plenty of wood to call home and when ever he pleases he has a A/C and heated home to go into.

Prior to Buddy becoming a park dog - someone must have house broke him - Buddy will let us know when he has to go.

We are pleased with Buddy's progress and we shall continue to evaluate whether Buddy can or should make visits to Centennial Park. This matter will be handled on whatever is judged to be in Buddy's best interest.
